What about us poor hoteliers?

Welcome to www.hotelguestfromhell.com !

A site created to share stories about those guests that can only be labelled “Guests from hell”.

The hotel, hospitality and restaurant industry is built upon the human touch and carries a proud tradition of service and flair. While the industry (and the professionals in it) may not be perfect (there are tons of hotel review sites out there that will testify to this readily), it is rare to find hotel guests who make a big deal about their “good” experiences. And even rarer to come to fore is the story about hotel guests who are so challenging and unreasonable that even veteran hoteliers and restaurateurs throw in the towel and just wish they were gone, never to return!

This is a site for hoteliers, restaurateurs and those in the service and hospitality industry. It’s about time we had some place WE could review guests, sound off…and just take solace in the fact that we all have bad days where we have to deal with these characters. So log on…read up, chip in or sign up to submit your own stories. You can also email us your experiences at stories (at) hotelguestfromhell (dot) com.

Best regards,

Your fellow hoteliers in arms.

PS: We would encourage sharing stories, comments and experiences…but also urge the usual discretion we hoteliers cherist and uphold, when it comes to names and companies!

As a banquet manager for 10 years, I’ve seen many managers get a lot of grief from up above for a few bad comment cards out of hundreds of happy repeat guests that did not fill out the card. That’s the business I guess, we’re only as good as what we did today.
It’s not fair but it’s real.

A family stayed at our hotel for 1 night in June 2008, from the 1st minute they did nothing but complain, they were rude, aggressive and hostile, they drank to excess and no matter what you did they did not like it, we put ourselves out for them and they abused us and the other guests, they left their rooms in a really bad state with vomit up the walls and (the non smoking) rooms stinking of cigarette smoke with burn holes in the bedding, they then complained to the tour company because we had to ask them to control their actions…..Now we know we run an excellent hotel (in the mountains of Southern Spain), we have many repeat bookings and certainly do not have a shortage of guests so it makes you wonder why they do it….the mind boggles.

My place of work in Key West Fl is a historical B&B and a vaction condos.
Last week I had a guest who for 1 week smoked weed in the condo, wouldnt want service and left a day earlier…I tried to explain about the leaving day early policy that he signed and he insisted he wanted his money back and of course…nope…when I told him about the smoking in the room he said. I DONT SMOKE and walked out. I was amazed..he came to my desk all upset about wanting to leave early and i had toldd him on the phone that we cant do that he insisted to meet with me….sure..i will just say it to your face…after he raised his voice I said that we didnt charge you fpor the dog..which he was not charged for…and that he was smokin…he declined service for the week…oh he didnt want it after the 1st service and he left his pot out and the housekeeper saw it..alot she said..and he knew it..thats why he didnt want it anymore…NOW..when i said that he will be charged 200 for the smoking all he said was i dont smoke and walked out…..that was odd…about 2 hours later a call from his cell.. it was him and he had the police there…to make sure he leaves the place nice and get his money back..i spoke to the cop and explained it to him asbout leaving early..he understood…and I told him that he is really upset that i am charging him for smokin…and i said he was smokin stuff that you can get at a store…the cop understood…the guest left..thank god…
NOW…i wanted to make sure i charge the right card because I had to credit cards, I called the second name on the reservation.. turns out this guy drove a boat down for a man who paid for most of the room…I let him know about what happened..and in the mans defence he said, well I have known this guy for over 1 year and I dont think he smokes pot…I said, OK and in that year, how many hours have you known him? I just want to make sure I am not charging you. several days later the jerk of all guest called to say he was gonna slam my place all over hte internet….well go ahead stoner…I just did too. except i cant say his name or mine…but thats ok..I said it…
10 years in this buisness and I have stories..

I am glad this place is around..
